It’s definitely frustrating that styling your own hair has to be so fucking annoying. I mean, I’m literally a hairdresser- an experienced, proficient one- and I pay other people to blow out my hair. I just hate it- I do it all day at work, and it’s much easier to do it on other people than on yourself, so that’s my lame excuse. Of course, you’re welcome to pay us to style your hair. But in case we aren’t open, or maybe it’s too early in the morning, or we’re a bit too far for just a styling appointment, this list of curated picks should help you choose the best styling tools to use on your own pretty self.
-Blowdryer Pick- The BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Hair Dryer-

This dryer is great. Really, everything BaByliss makes is great. The Nano Titanium dryer has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars on their site, and for excellent reason- she’s a crowd pleaser. It offers a whopping 2000 watts of water-wicking power, blasting excess moisture off your hair faster than most home dryers could ever dream. It’s pretty lightweight too- roughly two and a half pounds. That’s about as weighty as a quart of orange juice, for reference. At $95, this is the happy medium between cheapy crap and bougie crap. As a note, it gets pretty hot, so don’t let it linger on the scalp for too long. But I think that’s a good rule of thumb for literally hot tool. This dryer is also compatible with a diffuser attachment made by the same brand, so it’s great for the waves and curls too!
– Curling Iron for Long Hair Pick- The Bio Ionic Long Barrel Curling Iron

Okay, I know she’s expensive. But wowwwww. This iron is made for hair that’s too long to fit on standard curling irons. Anyone with luscious length knows the relative agony of beautiful curls in one zone and weird bumpy waves in another. The additional two inches of barrel length makes for an even wrap, and a better looking curl. This iron also has a cool-touch silicone tip to protect your little fingies, various heat settings for different texture needs, and a swivel cord so you won’t accidentally strangle yourself (probably). It also has an automatic shut-off feature, which is cool because burning down your house is really inconvenient, and only weighs 10 ounces! That’s about as light as a roll of paper towels, or two large eggs. I read that on the internet, I wouldn’t know personally. This iron has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars online.
– Curling Iron for Short Hair Pick- The BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium™ 1¼” Spring Curling Iron

I think this post is becoming a love letter to BaByliss. You’re gonna be sick of me by the time you find out my favorite flat iron. As a hint, the brand name is def gonna ring a bell. But truly and honestly, this spring iron is great for snagging shorter lengths and wrapping them softly for a relaxed, beachy curl as opposed to an uber-tight, unnatural pig’s tail vibe. This iron also boasts a swivel cord, which, as aforementioned, great for not accidentally getting got. It’s got adjustable heat settings and is also fairly lightweight, which is important for hairstylists and home-stylers alike. It weighs about as much as a box of butter, maybe about a pound or so. Rated 4.8 out of 5 by online users.
-Best Flat Iron Pick- The BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Prima3000 1¼ Ionic Styling Iron

Yeah, I have an obsession but it’s okay because it could be drugs and instead it’s reasonably priced professional hair tools. Sue me. Some would argue that one hundred and ninety buckaroonies is not reasonable, and to that I’d say.. fair enough. But for your consideration, I want you to know that no other tool in my hair salon takes a beating like this iron does. I use it all day. I use it on myself before clients arrive. I use it on most clients. I use it to push keratin into clients’ hair. I use it to curl, wave, create a glassy straight finish. It never fails me. One time, my assistant left it on for 48 hours over the weekend. I was pissed for sure, but it was fine. Cooled down, took a nap, powered back up in an hour to curl my client. Amazing. No notes. With a 4.8 out of 5 rating online, it seems like other customers agree. The outer casing heats up so it can be used to curl around, but the silicone tabs on the tips protect your hands while you work. The heat is customizable, going all the way to 465 degrees, which is CWAZY hot, do not make it that hot unless you’ve got very textured hair and a shit-ton of heat protectant. The swivel cord is fabric-wrapped, so it doesn’t tangle so bad, and it weighs just a bit more than the above curling iron. A bit less than two pounds, or, if it’s easier to imagine, a petite pineapple. Real little one. I’d purchase this iron every year if I had to and it would be worth it, except I wouldn’t need to- BaByliss has great warranties on their tools, and this one qualifies for a 4!!!! year!!! warranty!!! If the salon were on fire, I’d grab this iron, and then tuck Michelle under my arm and run.
